It's strange to find that usually high functioning brains are prone to addiction. The adreline rush in meeting deadlines and urge for perfection is key to this fact. When a high functioning brain is kept idle, the symptoms are like a drug addiction symptoms. The uneasiness, deep urge to find something to work on, mood swings, getting to alcohol, etc. are few outcomes that are seen. People with long working hours, people who work under pressure (it can be external or internal), people who works for perfection, are few class of people who are more prone to work addiction. When this addiction reaches a height, person starts spending more time at work and cherish that time instead of indulging into social activities and family.
A perfect balance as written in few notable books implies :
"A man is balanced if he is busy while he is alone and is quiet and peaceful while he is in the middle of the crowd."
This implies when a person can learn to remain busy with his thoughts even when he is alone and can control his thoughts while he is surrounded by other people, is a balanced one. A high functioning brain is not a gift, it can be achieved by continuously keeping it indulged in mental exercise, by continuously sharpening it and by continuous learning. But the thing we forget to mention is that it should be kept under control. I found people around me who have great brains but to keep themselves busy they do things and sometimes when it is heightened they are unable to control the thoughts coming to their minds. Once negative thoughts start coming, these people who can do myriad productive things and can make their life useful, turn into useless trash, wasting their valuable time and resources.
